One of Hollywood’s most famous and envied romances is now coming to a sad end.
Just 2 years and 1 month after they wed, Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences.
Jolie,41, is also seeking physical custody of their six children and is asking the court to grant Pitt,52, visitation privileges.
“This decision was made for the health of the family,” Robert Offer, a lawyer for Ms. Jolie Pitt, said in the statement. “She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
In a statement to People magazine Pitt said “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids… I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
The couple, who have been together for about 12 years, have 6 children together: Maddox, 15, and Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, and Vivienne, 8, Shiloh, 10 and Knox, 8.
According to reports a variety of motives have been alleged for the divorce, from Pitt’s “bad parenting” to his “substance abuse”, even one claiming that the actor had been having an affair with French actress Marion Cotillard, who he worked with on the movie “Allied”.
The news, so sudden, has cause shock waves through social media and many people seem heartbroken by the ‘Brangelina’ split, as the couple has been one of Hollywood’s most iconic duos.
But according to my grandma, “All that glitters is not gold”, and I’m pretty sure that these “irreconcilable differences” may soon be aired out for horrific mass scrutiny in this very public and high profile separation.
